I don't understand the "activities" feature of the desktop. I have been playing with it, and now I seem to have three distinct desktops, with different wallpapers but otherwise functionally the same. Is there a manual somewhere to which I can refer?

Hello tshandy,

there is a simply introductory video here:

Maybe one could think of it as having 4 different users, each having their own desktop with settings, but you needn't to log in and out smile

Thanks, Starbuck.  It's a lot simpler than I feared it might be.

I'm going to have to watch that vid.  I never really saw a need for Activities until recently when I started working from home; I thought it'd be good to have separate "work" and "play" activities.  I couldn't really get my head around it though.  And as usual, there's bugger all in the KDE handbook!

It's a neat thing. I'm still bound to good old workspaces (which, btw, can have different widgets and wallpapers, making the difference between them and activities even smaller), but that "stop" and "resume" feature is really nice. Very nice.

Another question: In fooling around with the feature, I added several activities areas that I don't use. How do I delete an activities area?

What do you mean by "activity area"? If you mean an activity itself, then, first look at top right on the icon of an activity, there is a "Stop" button. Press it. After the activity is stopped, you'll see a small red "X" which is actually the "Delete" button. Press it and the activity will be deleted.

Thanks. I should have seen that myself.

It's not the most intuitive way to hide "delete" button behind another button. Kinda reminds me of the issue with closing Banshee on Ubuntu: if you want to close the player completely, first you have to stop currently playing song, and then close the app. If you do not stop the song first, you cannot close Banshee in any obvious way (there's always Terminal, but still).
