Dear Netrunner team,

You guys have done great work, i have switched several distros in the last 3 or 4 years. Open SuSE was my favourite but software center was missing in it. Taking ubuntu and customizing it several fold to make things easier for every user does command appreciation. Keep doing the good work.

There is one issue, that keeps bothering me from the time i installed the distro, that is wifi network doesn't connect automatically. I ve tried your step by step guide but still no use. I am unable to find out the reason. Kde wallet isn't starting up automatically. Is there something that i can try like installing an alternative network manager or so? If so, can you please tell me the procedure.

Thanks and Regards,

shaahid

Hello shaahid,

are you able to connect manually (by clicking on available wireless network entry)?

Hi am having the same problem with the wireless connection. I hit scan and well it see's no wireless connection. I even manually entered the SSID and Wep key but this seems to not help. No wireless connections are being viewed.

Hi chaps,

you should open the network manager and click on edit connections and make sure that you have a tick in both "Connect Automatically" and "System Connection".

@faust

i had a similar issue.

it happens with dell and acer from what i gather.

can you connect using ethernet port?

i had to do this in terminal.

lsmod | grep dell (if it shows up i had to remove it)

sudo rmmod -f dell-laptop

sudo rfkill unblock all

had to bing it cause google is getting evil.

maybe that will help.

@shaahid13

i had to set up auto connect with kwallet. seems to be something with the kde 4.7.4 release.

for me anyway.

So you open the connection window from tray-icon, see your wireless network connection, click on it and it connects you then?

Does any popup ask you for password when you manually connect to wireless this way?

It's also worthy to note compatibility of WiFi Cards and Adapters for example Linux Mint doesn't recognize my ASUS USB Wifi card however it detects all my Net Gear (2 Models) D-Link Cards (three Models 150-300 and 600). With Net Runner I had to use my Net Gear USB Adapter which it detected right off the bat. I know from using many variants of Linux that it can be hit or miss with USB Adapters or you have to 'Wrap' a Windows Driver. I personally ended up keeping a Net Gear and D-Link 150 on hand whenever I do a new install of any Linux Distro. I realize this does not answer the Question but I thought it worthy to mention especially if people are coming to Net Runner and/or Linux for the first time..
