Downloading now. Will try to test it in Virtualbox

    • Starbuck2001

      Thanks, any feedback welcome!

  • Miguel

Pulse audio is missing , please dont forget out. That is important for the Skype.

    • Starbuck2001

pulseaudio should be default. Which version is it missing for you (32 or 64bit)?

      • Miguel

I think Pulse Audio Volume control is missing, from the Multimedia menu. That is important for the Skype microphone to turn on, because the live iso default Skype microphone is off. So , please be kind and include the PULSE AUDIO VOLUME CONTROL.Thanks.

    • BSkeptic

PulseAudio makes it impossible to run Skype. Not to mention that it
causes all sorts of other audio problems. I don’t understand why any
distro would want to include it.

      • JZah

I am using PulseAudio everyday with Skype on Netrunner, CentOS and SolydK, no problems so far.

  • Guest

Why do you use the evolvere start menu logo with oxygen icons?

  • granul

Where is WebAccounts? or how can I use google calendar

    • Starbuck2001

Hi granul, webaccounts should be under System Settings -> Social Accounts.

      • granul

        Thank you

  • Syvolc

Nice ! Thank you for this preview release !

  • Guest

Is it possible to remove the gap that exists between start menu and its sub menus?

    • Starbuck2001

This is Homerun Kicker, so it would be needed to fix in the code there.
Currently, the developer has ported Kicker Menu into official KDE Plasma5, so high chance we can get it fixed in Netrunner 15.

  • d0pefish

this is good news to wake up to, netrunner is my fav distro

  • Steven Abeyta

This looks pretty darn nice, I do declare. I think I’ll give Netrunner another go. Best KDE I’ve seen. I’ve always felt KDE is the ‘NASA’ of Linux distros with a rocket ship feel and an ability to easily customize every little nut and bolt. You guys have turned it into something great and fresh. Something Linux Mint is also good at. Congrats on the RC release, and thank you! :)

  • Tom Villa

    Very Nice

  • Dah65

32 bits version, PC Dual Core 3 Gb RAM and graphic card Nvidia 7100 GS, just get a black screen with the cursor locked.
Hope you will be able to fix it.
Netrunner 13.10 was ok in the same PC

    • Kee Kah Wee

I tested on VirtualBox and I have no such issue.

    • Starbuck2001

      Hi Dah,
please report this in our forums, so we will try to fix it for the release.

    • eco2geek

The open-source nouveau driver doesn’t work well with nvidia 7-series of video cards. (I used to have one.) Try installing the proprietary driver. You can easily install it from the command line. The package you want for your card is “nvidia-304″.

      • Dah65

I know, but if everything is frozen, there is little I can do. And, as I said, it didn’t happen with Netrunner 13.10

Maybe the composition is opengl 2.0 by default (which doesn’t work well with this card) but at least in Kubuntu 14.04 and KaOS I can do something even with opengl 2.0

I’ve been busy, but I’ll give another try to Netrunner 14.06, and if the issue is still present, I’ll post if in the forum for the devs to know.

Currently, I’m using Kubuntu 14.04 and I think I will keep on going with it.

But I think Netrunner is a very good distro, and I use it for some friends install.

        • eco2geek

Depending on how much effort you want to put into it, you can always start the live media with the kernel parameter “modprobe.blacklist=nouveau”, which will keep the nouveau driver from loading. Then you can go to a virtual terminal, stop lightdm, do an “apt-get update”, and install the proprietary nvidia driver (assuming you’ve got enough RAM and an internet connection). Modprobe the nvidia driver, start lightdm, and you’re in.

Netrunner’s apparently set to start up using OpenGL 2.0, which is the problem — it would probably work fine if it defaulted to the XRender backend.

        • eco2geek

Something really easy is to tell Netrunner to start with the boot parameter “text” (you might want to start it without the “splash” parameter as well, so instead of ending in “quiet splash” the command line ends in “quiet text”).

That’ll put you at a console with no X windows. Then you can manually edit ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc and change “Enabled=true” to “Enabled=false” under the “[Compositing]” section. Then “sudo start lightdm” to get into KDE without compositing.

Thank you very much for all your hard work! Netrunner BEST of The Best!!

  • Jon Graham

WOW, I’ve always loved netrunner, it was the distro that made me like KDE, this release is amazing, the attention to detail is amazing. Thanks to the netrunner team for all their hard work, it is greatly appreciated

  • technomancer

Looks just like everyother KDE distro now, yuck. Works ok, but where is the original theming/colors/feel that i fell in love with ? I hope you guys theme better before the final release. just my honest opinion, others may like this XP style look. I am saving KDE settings for everything so i can get that Netrunner feel back. Hey there you go, how about different themes that adjust all of KDE ? Thanks for all the hard work, i still love Netrunner.

  • jcrben

I’ve been looking for a new distro, but why does your forum link not work? It just hangs. See http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/forums.netrunner-os.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=34

It’s a really bad sign, I guess I’ll pass for now.

    • Starbuck2001

That might have been temporary, it works just fine.

      • jcrben

Thanks for the prompt response. Are you going to look into it? You should have logs which explain what happened. It seems extremely troubling for the distro’s forum to be down. The forum serves a pretty important function.

  • Matthias Schuster Scharmer

Runs very fine here, thanks a lot ^-^

  • DrTeeth

Can the RC be updated to the release version or is a reinstall needed?

    • Starbuck2001

Should be updateable, minus some tweaks.

      • DrTeeth

Thanks. I’ll wait for the full release in that case.

  • Jon Graham

I dont get why ppl complain about the default themes, apps and colors. Everything can be tweaked/themed to your liking. Thats pretty much the first thing i do after i install any os is add my own themes and apps to my likings. I’ve been playing around with this release since it came out and i havent noticed any bugs, some things have def been improved. in 13.12 it would never remember my resolution for my tv and i would have to change it every time i rebooted, this has been fixed. the one thing i cant seem to get to work right is the silverlight pipeline plugin for netflix. I eventually just gave up and installed the netflix desktop and that works fine but i would love for netflix to work in all my browsers. Overall though this is damn fine release, cant wait for the final, i assume as long as i run all updates i wont have to reinstall once it comes out.

  • JZah

64-bit Runs great so far in Virtualbox. The only problem I noticed was when the iso was loading very slow and the taskbar, homerun kicker and the clock was missing when the iso was fully loaded. Pressing the windows key made the homerun menu appear. Then I started the installation process by clicking on the Install icon located on the desktop. The installation was fast, smooth and painless. I am typing this from within the Netrunner virtual machine. Thank you Netrunner team!

  • lbleite

    testando !!!!

  • Ariel

Take a look at Kademar Linux (Kademar 5 Stable just went out), they
customized in a nice way the file manager (Dolphin). I think you may
give the same look and functionality to the Netrunner’s file manager, by
default, changing this way the standard KDE look & feel. In a customized envronment like the one you developed, this could be a plus, don’t you think?

  • Jamin Fernandez

I installed netrunner 14 rc1 the official artwork of netrunner does not apply by default :(

    please help

  • Herry Kurniawan

Thanks for the release Netrunner 14 Frontier (RC1)

Is there something new about the expected time of stable release?

  • steelmann

Is there something news about the expected time of stable release?

    • Starbuck2001

Plan is tomorrow or Saturday. But it needs to tested and checksummed, 32 and 64bit, so you never know 100%.

      • steelmann

It seems that it was not successful. But I never know 100%.

I’m facing this issue with every linux distro who i installed in my laptop. And yes, I searched in every corner for a solution, patch, fix or magic mushrooms. I cannot change the display brightness, with libre (nouveau) or closed drivers. My hamster is a Samsung RV411 with a Nvidia Geforce 315M video card. Everything works flawlessly with all distributions (except x64 ones, my hamster hate those penguins). Now I’m in Netrunner Arch x86.

If Windows can handle with this, I’m sure Linux can do it better.

    • Jon Graham

I run linux on like 4 laptops, one of them is a samsung, i have a different issue with the brightness on the samsung, when its on battery power, the brightness level has to be at 100% and if i lower it even to just 90% the whole screen flickers. I have had this problem with every distro whether its arch based, slackware based, debian based or ubuntu.

    • Steve Archambault

set the brightness you want and the open terminal and type:

      sudo sed
      “s/(GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=)”"/1″acpi_osi=Linux
      acpi_backlight=vendor”/” /etc/default/grub -i

      sudo update-grub

      sudo reboot
this fix it on all my laptops hope it helps

      • https://twitter.com/estimadosenor Ken Válbrandur

I’ve installed Debian 6 (Gnome 2) and the brightness adjustement works!

But if I update the distro with apt-get update && apt-get upgrade, the screen stuck again at 100%. I don’t know where is the trouble, xorg.conf is the same after a update.

So, I’m with a Debian without any update, only with LMDE repo for Firefox .

If the laptop are plugged, I cannot adjust the brightness.

Thanks for your help, I’ll try this on Debian 6.

        • Steve Archambault

like i said on my laptop it did the trick the only problem is when i get graphic card update or if i want to reajust the brightness i have to set the brightness i want and redo those commands but it only takes 2 seconds so its not that bad like i said hope it helps sorry if my spelling is wrong but im really french..

          • https://twitter.com/estimadosenor Ken Válbrandur

Don’t worry, I speak spanish and I know my spelling is bad.

  • Jon Graham

will the stable have kde 4.13.2? i installed it on the rc via ppa, it seem to take except there seems to be some problem with the network accounts, it fails the update saying the file already exists in another source, i just hid the update for now because i dont really use the network accounts anyway. This rc has been so good that i keep forgetting its just an rc, I dont think i have had any issues at all other than this minor network accounts problem.

    • Jon Graham

actually the network accounts issue i just described does not appear to be related to the kde 4.13.2 ppa. it will prollyfix itself, most of the update errors i have go away within a day or so

  • Jamin Fernandez

    Espectacular :D

    Using now

  • lbleite

is the launch will be when? waiting … :)
